'Laid off over a Google Meet': Employee shares how US bank fired entire Indian customer service team
New Delhi (Special correspondent) - An employee claimed that 80 Indian customer service workers lost their jobs during a five-minute Google Meet call. The Reddit post also raised concerns about job security, company expectations and the lack of severance for some workers.
The user explained, “I was a part of the customer support team until yesterday for a US Bank. They asked us to work from home yesterday due to operational reasons. I was doing a 6.30 pm shift, and at 9.30 pm they just invited us on a Google Meet and told us the entire Indian Customer service team has been fired!”
The employee then described the scale of the alleged layoffs, saying all 80 members of the team had lost their jobs.
The user said, “All 80employees! All gone…80 families affected just with a 5min call... I feel bad that we work for these corporates who can throw us out anytime and regret that I used to work hard at my job. Also, Idk how I will get a new job! This is petty.”
The Reddit post prompted users to ask why the company had taken the decision.
One user asked, “Sorry, OP! This is devastating. What reason did they state for this action?” The employee explained, “They were not getting the expected output from the Indian team… B*llcrap! Because their US team had the maximum amount of attrition, discretionary time, and would hardly get things right… Whereas we, because of job security, would always push ourselves in the name of job security!”
One user said, “Sad! It’s just disheartening.”
