Anna Hazare Supports Students' Protest Over NEET Exam Scam; Observes Silence in Shirdi
Shirdi (Correspondent) - Veteran social activist Anna Hazare has extended his support to the students' protest taking place at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over the alleged NEET examination scam and the demand for the resignation of the Union Education Minister.
Hazare launched a silent protest at the Gandhi Memorial in Wadia Park, Shirdi. Despite being unwell, he participated in the protest by observing a vow of silence for some time. Later, he left the stage, but the silent protest continued.
Anna Hazare, who resides at the Yadavbaba Temple in Ralegan Siddhi, became emotional during the protest in Shirdi and was seen with tears in his eyes. By participating in the demonstration, he expressed his support for the students protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
The silent protest was organized at the Gandhi Memorial in Wadia Park, Shirdi. Although Hazare is elderly and has not been keeping well recently, he still took part in the protest. After observing silence for a while, he asked his colleagues to continue the agitation before leaving the venue.
Anna Hazare's Earlier Reaction
A couple of days earlier, while responding to reports of a police baton charge on protesters at Jantar Mantar, Hazare said that he did not know the circumstances that led to the incident. However, he emphasized that such issues should be resolved peacefully and through dialogue.
Anna Hazare's Letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement had played a significant role in shaping the political climate before the 2014 general elections, which saw the UPA government replaced by the NDA government. The movement also contributed to the rise of Arvind Kejriwal in politics. At that time, Hazare was widely regarded by many as a modern-day Gandhian.
As questions were being raised about Hazare's position during the renewed protests at Jantar Mantar, he wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the letter, Hazare stated that both violence and police action against protesters were deeply painful. He urged that the protesters' dissatisfaction should not be viewed merely as a law-and-order problem but as an expression of the public's pain and expectations.
"The Government Will Not Fall if Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns"
Hazare wrote that there have been demands for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, but such a resignation would not bring down the government. Instead, he argued, it would make the government's functioning more accountable and effective.
He appealed to the government to listen to the protesters' demands with courage, create an atmosphere of trust, and resolve the issue through constructive dialogue.
While speaking to the media, Hazare said that he wrote to Prime Minister Modi because the Prime Minister is the country's highest elected leader and should be fully informed about the concerns and issues being raised by the public.
