Takedown Notices For IFF, SFLC Were Sent By Impostor, Not Delhi Police: X Corp Tells Delhi High Court

New Delhi (Special Correspondent) - X Corp (formerly Twitter) on Friday informed the Delhi High Court that the takedown notices sent to Internet Freedom Foundation and SFLC were by some impostor and not by the Delhi Police.

X's counsel told Justice Amit Mahajan that a complaint has been filed with the Delhi Police to find the impostor and that no action is taken against IFF and SFLC.

The Court was dealing with the petitions filed by IFF and SFLC against the takedown notices which sought removal of their accounts.

Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal appearing for IFF and SFLC said that the notices were issued purportedly by the Special Commissioner of Police and that their genuineness is doubted.

"We have written to the authority to please confirm its genuineness but no confirmation has come. If it is genuine then it is most troubling. I receive something called a legal notice, purportedly on behalf of the RSS. It has no details of the lawyer,” Sibal said.

The counsel appearing for X then said that an internal investigation was done which revealed that the notices were sent by an imposter impersonating the Delhi Police.

“We did not action it. Notices are not sent by the Delhi Police. We have filed a complaint with the Delhi Police last night to find the impostor,” he said.

Taking note of the stand, the Court disposed of the petitions.
