At least 15 Indian tourists dead after speedboat capsizes in Vietnam off Phu Quoc Island
New Delhi (Representative) - At least 15 Indian tourists were killed after a boat carrying visitors capsized off Vietnam's southern island of Phu Quoc on Saturday, Authorities said the vessel was carrying 36 people, including 32 Indian tourists, three crew members and one attendant.

The boat was travelling from Hon May Rut Island to An Thoi Port when it overturned about 400 metres into the sea.
The Indian tourists onboard were part of an offsite organised by handset maker Lava. According to sources, more than 100 Lava channel partners and company team members had travelled from India for the incentive trip. Some channel partners were accompanied by their family members. Only a section of the delegation was onboard the tourist boat that capsized near Phu Quoc Island, the sources said.
Rough sea conditions and large waves were present in the area when the accident occurred. Earlier, said nearby tourist boats rushed to the scene after spotting the overturned vessel. A boat owner involved in the rescue said his vessel reached the site in about five minutes, but many passengers remained trapped inside the boat. "Only a few people were brought out conscious," he said.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam said it is monitoring the incident and has established emergency response centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to assist affected families. Describing the incident as "tragic," the embassy posted on X, "Exact details of the incident are being ascertained as search and rescue operations by local authorities are ongoing."

Phu Quoc, Vietnam's largest island, has become one of the country's most popular tourist destinations and has attracted many Indian visitors in recent years.
According to Vietnam's Department of Tourism, Phu Quoc welcomed 5.7 million visitors in the first six months of the year, up 30% year-on-year and achieving 68% of its annual target, including 1.32 million foreign tourists, a 50% increase from a year earlier.
