47 Palestinians die in Israeli prisons since Oct 2023: UN
Jerusalem, Dec 4 (UNI) The United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) in Palestine said that at least 47 Palestinian prisoners had died in Israeli custody since October 7, 2023. "We are alarmed by the reports that 2 more Palestinians died in Israeli detention, aged 31 and 35, raising the reported number of Palestinians who died in Israeli custody since 7 October 2023 to at least 47," the organization said on X on Tuesday.
The organization added that the information comes amid reports of widespread torture and ill-treatment in Israeli prisons, including denial of medical care and sexual violence. On October 7, 2023, Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched Operation Iron Swords in the Gaza Strip. The death toll from the Israeli attacks has surpassed 44,400 in the Gaza Strip, according to local health authorities.
