Senior Journalists’ Lives Remain in the Dark; We Will Brighten Their Present and Future: Dr. Jaipal Patil

Senior Journalist Association’s Pimpri Office Inaugurated; Vijay Surana appointed President of North Pune District; Uttam Kute appointed President of Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pimpri (Correspondent) -The Senior Journalist Association, Maharashtra has undertaken an important initiative to address the problems faced by journalists who tirelessly devote themselves to their profession but often find their present and future uncertain and difficult. Expressing concern that the condition of senior journalists is even more serious and that the government has largely neglected their issues, Dr. Jaipal Patil, State President of the Senior Journalist Association, Maharashtra, stressed the need for a united struggle to resolve their fundamental problems.

Dr. Patil was speaking while addressing a meeting of journalists from North Pune district held at Pradhikaran (Nigdi), on the occasion of the inauguration of the North Pune District–Pimpri-Chinchwad office of the Senior Journalist Association at Akurdi-Nigdi Pradhikaran.

Maharashtra State General Secretary Sanjay Joshi, Pune City District President Milind Vaidya and General Secretary Chandrakant Kamble were present on the occasion.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad office of the association was inaugurated by State President Dr. Jaipal Patil. During the meeting, the office-bearers of the North Pune District and Pimpri-Chinchwad City units were announced.

The newly appointed office-bearers are: Vijay Surana – President, North Pune District; Sadanand Shewale – General Secretary; Uttam Kute – President, Pimpri-Chinchwad City; Vijay Nyayadhish – Vice-President; Anil Padale – Working President, Pune City; Sanjay Vishwakarma – Head, North Indian Journalists’ Front; and Nitin Yelmar – Digital Advisor. The newly appointed office-bearers were congratulated on their appointments.

In his keynote address, Dr. Patil appealed to journalists to further strengthen the organisation. He provided detailed information regarding the economic and healthcare-related issues of senior journalists, accreditation cards, pensions and travel concessions. He said that the association would pursue these issues with both the Central and State governments. He also announced that a state-level convention for journalists would be organised by the association in Pune or Pimpri-Chinchwad in November 2026.

State General Secretary Sanjay Joshi briefed the gathering about the functioning and objectives of the organisation. He said that the Senior Journalist Association would welcome journalists from all communities, castes, religions and linguistic backgrounds, irrespective of whether they work in print or digital media, as honourable members of the association. He further said that the organisation has been established to work for senior journalists from both urban and rural areas and that journalists who are already members of other journalists’ organisations would also be welcomed as members of the Senior Journalist Association. Joshi also announced that the association’s Mumbai divisional office would soon be opened in the Andheri area. He said the organisation plans to establish its own guest house, where journalists and their relatives coming to Maharashtra from different parts of the state will be provided accommodation at affordable rates.

He informed the gathering that a meeting of journalists from all districts of North Maharashtra would be held at Shirdi (Ahilyanagar) on September 24. A Vidarbha division meeting and the announcement of the Ahilyanagar executive committee would also be held. He added that new office-bearers had already been appointed in nine districts and the organisation’s work had commenced there.

On the occasion, appointment letters were handed over to members and office-bearers by President Dr. Jaipal Patil, General Secretary Sanjay Joshi and Pune District President Milind Vaidya. Identity cards of the organisation were also distributed to members who had completed all the required formalities.

Pune District President Milind Vaidya reviewed the organisation’s work in the district. He said efforts would be made to strengthen the organisation across the district and that a meeting would soon be held to select the executive committees for Pune City and South Pune District.

District and City General Secretary Chandrakant Kamble proposed a vote of thanks to the journalists present. Special thanks were expressed to Prof. Bhushan Ozarde of Ozarde Institute for making the hall and office primises available for SJA set-up and also for the meeting.

Senior journalists Rajan Wadke and Sandeep Pawar, photographer Thakar, video journalist Milind Temkar and several other member journalists were present at the meeting.
