Shri Shetra Alandi / Pune (Special Correspondent) - A deeply devotional atmosphere has enveloped the holy town of Alandi as thousands of Warkaris gather at the Sanjeevan Samadhi Temple of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj. Devotees immersed in the rhythm of cymbals and mridangam, chanting "Dnyanoba Mauli" and "Mauli, Mauli," carrying Tulsi Vrindavans on their heads and saffron flags in their hands, have transformed the temple premises into a sea of devotion. The revered palanquin (Palkhi) of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj is now set to begin its aahadhi ekadashi journey to Pandharpur.
The sacred Padukas (holy sandals) of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj were ceremonially worshipped in the presence of District Collector Jitendra Dudi, who also offered prayers and sought blessings. The ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament Shrirang Barne, MLA Mahesh Landge, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil, Sub-Divisional Officer Anil Daunde, Chief Trustee of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Sansthan Dr. Bhavarth Dekhane, Trustee Yogi Niranjannath Guru Shantinath, Palkhi Procession Chief and Trustee Adv. Rajendra Umap, Trustees Chaitanya Londhe, Dr. Rohini Pawar, Purushottam Patil, and several other dignitaries.
Comprehensive arrangements have been made in Alandi to ensure the comfort and safety of the devotees. These include public health services, shelters, toilets, drinking water facilities, Hirakani care centres, women's bathing facilities, mobile charging stations, extensive police deployment at major junctions, sanitation teams, public announcement systems for guidance, and fire safety services. These facilities have received an encouraging response from the devotees.
Pune Municipal Corporation Launches 'Seva Wari' Initiative
The Palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj will enter Pune city on Thursday, July 9, 2026. To welcome and serve the Warkaris, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a special initiative titled 'Seva Wari'.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Additional Commissioners Prajit Nair and Omprakash Divte, Palkhi Nodal Officer Nikhil More, and Deputy Commissioner Madhav Jagtap inspected the final halt locations and confirmed that all preparations have been completed.
This year, the accommodation space for Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj's Palkhi has been expanded fivefold to 5,000 square feet, with separate and well-equipped facilities for male and female devotees.
For the first time in the history of the Palkhi procession, a special German hangar has been erected. Warkaris arriving after long journeys will receive free physiotherapy and massage services from physiotherapy students.
A total of 195 waterproof shelters have been installed across the city to provide essential amenities through the joint efforts of the Pune Municipal Corporation and local residents.
To accommodate devotees, 101 municipal schools have been opened for lodging. Around-the-clock medical check-ups, treatment, and free medicines will be provided by PMC health teams at all these locations.
Water supply across the city has been significantly increased to ensure there is no shortage for the devotees. A large number of mobile toilets have also been installed along the procession route and halt locations, with dedicated sanitation staff deployed 24 hours a day to maintain cleanliness.
Through the 'Seva Wari' initiative, the Pune Municipal Corporation has reaffirmed its commitment to providing the best possible services and facilities to the Warkaris. Senior officials, nodal officers, and municipal staff are actively working on the ground, while citizens of Pune have also been urged to participate enthusiastically in serving the devotees.
Temporary Traffic Diversions in Pune from July 9 to 11
The Palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj will arrive together in Pune on July 9, halt in the city on July 10, and depart on July 11, 2026. As lakhs of Warkaris participate in the procession on foot, special traffic management measures have been implemented to ensure safe and smooth movement.
Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Maharashtra Government notification, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakare has imposed temporary traffic restrictions from 12:01 a.m. on July 9 until midnight on July 11, 2026. Emergency service vehicles, including fire brigade, police, ambulances, fuel transport vehicles, and vehicles related to marriage ceremonies, have been exempted from these restrictions.
Within the Samarth Traffic Division, entry of all types of vehicles has been prohibited on several routes, including:

From Parsi Agiary Chowk and Sant Kabir Chowk towards Aruna Chowk.
From Ashok Chowk, Anmol Traders, Davare Chowk, Vateshwar Bhavan, Maruti Mandir, Ramoshi Gate, Khaskar Masjid Chowk, Chamde Galli Chowk, and A.D. Camp Chowk towards Palkhi Vitthoba Chowk.
