The Union Cabinet on Wednesday (October 28) approved three per cent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) for government employees and pensioners - taking it from 60 to 63 per cent of the basic pay. The increase comes more than a week before Diwali and will be applicable from July 1 this year. About 48 lakh central government employees and 68 lakh pensioners will benefit from the hike.
The Congress failed to open its account in the by-elections held for 28 Legislative Council seats across four states. The party contested 12 of these seats, four of which it had won previously. The biggest setback for the Congress came in Karnataka, where, despite being in power, it failed to secure a single seat.
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) on Wednesday reported a 24 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase in consolidated revenue to Rs 11,340 crore for the quarter ended September 30 (Q2 FY27), while EBITDA grew 23 per cent to Rs 6,807 crore, supported by strong performance across its ports, logistics and marine businesses.
The Election Commission cannot alter Forms 6, 7, and 8, the Supreme Court said today while hearing a bunch of petitions on the Special Intensive Revision of voters in Delhi, questioning why individuals who were already on the electoral roll are being asked to fill out Form 6 to have their names re-enrolled. Form 6 is intended for new voters. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said Forms 6, 7, and 8 are prescribed formats and cannot be altered.
